No Olympics at Britannia!

The Olympics are coming to Britannia Centre but RESISTANCE IS GROWING!!

First off, thanks from the bottoms of our 'resisting 2010' hearts to the hundreds of people that stepped up in the community to resist the Olympics at Britannia.

Although we have some disappointing news, we also have a proposal for you that is filled with creativity and resistance. Last night, despite a strong showing of opposition in this community, the Board voted in favour of the Olympics at Britannia, 8-5.

But this is NOT THE END…..it is A BEGINNING. At the end of November, we will be contacting you about a public meeting to discuss next steps.

Read on to find out what happened at the special meeting and where we go from here...

October 30, 2008
The Britannia Board held their vote last night and the decision of the board (by secret ballot, no less) was 8-5 in favour of allowing VANOC to use Britannia as an Olympics practice venue. This is hugely disappointing, but we plan to keep organizing to resist 2010 and protect our community.

We're going to do a call out for a big community meeting in late November, so check back or sign up for our email list.
